“Werner Alfred DeCaro was born in 1945 in southern Germany. He attended public schools there until 1959 when his family migrated to the United States.
For the next few years, he attended schools in Texas, Illinois, and Rhode Island. While attending Rogers High School in Newport, RI, he took art courses, held exhibitions, and made his first sales. At the age of 15, he won first prize at the Newport County Art Festival, and his painting was voted the most popular exhibited at the event. He repeated this achievement the following year, and in recognition, received a letter from Senator Claiborne Pell praising his talent.
From 1963 to 1965, DeCaro lived in Salinas and San Jose, California, becoming a full-time commercial artist. During this period he had several successful exhibitions in the Los Gatos area.
In 1965, Werner DeCaro returned to Germany, and studied at the School for Commercial Art, from which he received his certificate in April 1967. Returning to the San Jose area in 1968, DeCaro continued to paint and exhibit landscapes and seascapes.
He returned to
his home town in Southern Germany in 1969 to continue a career in commercial
art, but since 1971 has been a full time free-lance artist.”
