Biography

Tiffany Hastie was born in Hope, B.C., in 1972 and grew up on the South Coast of Vancouver Island, before relocating to the Lower Mainland where she currently resides with her husband and three children.

Well known for her miniature paintings, Tiffany’s artwork reflects the beauty of the ever-changing light on the landscape and the haunting qualities of old architecture and historical sites. Rendered primarily in acrylic, much of Tiffany’s artwork is presented in a miniature format that seeks to draw the viewer inward.  Every piece is carefully prepared and meticulously painted; comprised of hundreds of tiny brush strokes and numerous layers of paint.  An average miniature painting will take approximately fifteen hours to complete, often more.  Tiffany paints without magnification, but recommends that viewers observe the paintings under magnification to better appreciate the workmanship and fine detail.

Tiffany Hastie Studio is located in Pitt Meadows, B.C., where Tiffany continues to paint and teach, sharing the art of both acrylic painting and miniature painting with others.

Artists Statement

Born and raised on the West Coast of  British Columbia, I have always held a deep appreciation for the natural beauty surrounding me.  The permanence of landscape and architecture, when combined with the ever changing light, provides an endless source of inspiration and challenge.  The tension created when painting the “Grand View” in miniature  format engages the viewer on an intimate  level.  There is an elusive quality inherent in miniature paintings  which draws the  viewer inward.

The roots of painting in miniature are found in the historical art of Illumination; of embellishing and illustrating ancient  manuscripts and letters.  With the passage of time and changing social trends impacting traditional miniature work, contemporary miniaturists now enjoy a broad range of subjects and mediums to work with.

It will take me approximately 15 hours to complete an average  2 ½ “ x  3 ½  ” miniature painting and a generous amount of patience and concentration.

Both a challenging and rewarding experience, painting in miniature has become a passion for me and it is my pleasure to share the artistry and the technique with others.
