BIOGRAPHY

"My goal as a painter is to create inspiring landscapes and sea renderings with an artistic interpretation of light, shadow, and reflection.  In each painting, I attempt to capture the movement, atmosphere, and the excitement of experiencing the scene for the very first time."

Jory describes himself as an explorer of nature and a student of light.  He paints with a sense of awe, wonder and gratitude for the nature he portrays in his art.  His paintings become very personal as the viewer explores, sees, and experiences something new each time they look at them, especially during changing light conditions throughout the day.

Jory's paintings are reminiscent of the Hudson River School and early California art.  Each piece of art is an original oil mostly composed from memory, inspiration, and imagination.  His scene structure, content, and painting technique often lead to paintings taking up to six months or more to complete.

He began painting landscapes in oils and water colors while in his late teens.  Jory has taken numerous art history classes in college, is an avid art reader, and a collector of Hudson River and Early California paintings.  He has been featured in one-man shows, in Oil Painters of America (OPA) Western Regional Art Exhibition (2009), and his art sold through local and distinctive galleries.  Jory is a member of Oil Painters of America and The American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).

Jory lives in Los Altos, California with his wife Diane.  They have two children Brian and Jennifer who are both in college.  He is an Associate member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), Stanford's Cantor Center for the Arts, an active member in the community, and is a frequent volunteer in community, church, and school activities.

Previous Professional Life

Jory received an undergraduate degree in Engineering at Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.  After working for several Fortune 500 firms, he began a high tech career with new and emerging companies.  He founded and was CEO of two high tech ventures and has been awarded several patents.
