"One of the most widely recognized of modern realists, Tom Nicholas was born in
Connecticut in 1934. He was awarded a scholarship to the School of Visual Arts
in New York and later traveled extensively in Europe through a Greenshields
Memorial Foundation grant.
Noted for the lyrical rhythm and technical mastery of his paintings, Nicholas
displays a profound sense of place reflected in a deeply poetic expression.
Nicholas was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design in 1963 and
a full Academician in 1970, one of the youngest artists ever to be so honored.
He is a Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society, a member of the
Knickerbocker Artists and Allied Artists of America. A bibliography of critical
studies of his work includes articles in the American Artist, Today's Art,
Western Art Digest, Southwest Art and The Artists - England and America."
